Zahriyeh - Rehabilitation of the Main Street is a community-led initiative under the Tripoli Peace Initiative, funded by the United Nations' Peacebuilding Fund and implemented by IOM with SHIFT and the Municipality of Tripoli. The project aims to rehabilitate sidewalks, improve facades and lighting, and enhance the urban environment to increase safety, support local businesses, and preserve the neighborhood's cultural identity.
Zahriyeh's main street suffers from deteriorated sidewalks, damaged building facades, and inadequate lighting. These conditions reduce pedestrian safety, weaken economic and social activity, and negatively affect the area's historic and cultural identity. The deterioration also limits residents' sense of belonging and contributes to urban neglect in one of Tripoli's historic neighborhoods.
The project will rehabilitate the main street through sidewalk repairs, facade improvements, and upgraded public lighting. By improving infrastructure and the urban landscape, the initiative will create a safer and more attractive public space for residents, visitors, and businesses. The project also promotes community participation and cooperation to strengthen local ownership and social cohesion.
The rehabilitation of Zahriyeh's main street will improve public safety, encourage economic activity, and preserve the neighborhood's cultural heritage. Enhanced public spaces will strengthen community pride, social interaction, and local stability. In the long term, the project will contribute to sustainable urban development and reinforce residents' sense of belonging through a locally driven initiative.
