1. Introduction:This report presents the almost-last phase (“Final Touches”) of the KAP Unreached Youths initiative. This stage focused on reinforcing earlier interventions, addressing remaining gaps, and ensuring that participating youths are well-prepared to sustain positive change within their communities.
2. Key Activities: The project team implemented interventions designed to consolidate learning and promote sustainability. These included: Mentorship sessions tailored to individual and group needs, Life-skills workshops focusing on real-life application, Follow-up activities for all engaged youths, Peer learning and confidence-building exercises, and Support for some youth groups in refining self-sustaining income generating initiatives.
The approach emphasized practical application, enabling participants to translate knowledge into meaningful action.
3. Impact: The 'Final Touches activities' significantly strengthened participants’ understanding and application of key concepts introduced earlier in the programme. Notable results include: Improved decision-making skills, Increased self-awareness and emotional regulation, Enhanced motivation to pursue positive life choices, Readiness among youths to initiate small-scale economic activities and Increased community engagement and constructive participation.
Beyond these immediate outcomes, the program is contributing to deeper, long-term behavioural change. Many youths are beginning to internalize positive values and demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges. Encouragingly, several participants have transitioned into peer supporters; listening to others, sharing their experiences, and encouraging fellow community members. However, continuous transformation will require continued engagement, as some participants still need ongoing mentorship to fully stabilize their progress and overcome persistent socio-economic pressures.
4. Beneficiary Story: Annet
Annet’s journey illustrates the transformative impact of the program:
“I came into the KAP training feeling lost, angry, and deeply wounded. I had never addressed the trauma of losing my mother, the violence we experienced during the post-election period and the struggles of poverty. I cried often, felt helpless and saw myself as a victim with no direction.”
“Through the training, I learned how to understand and heal from trauma. When I shared my story, something shifted inside me. The pain that once felt overwhelming began to ease. The constant crying stopped, my anger reduced and I started to feel lighter and more in control of my life.”
“The support went beyond training. When my child fell seriously ill, KAP stepped in and supported us until she recovered. That care restored my faith in people and in life.”
“Today, I reach out to others going through difficult situations, listening to them and encouraging them the way I was supported. I no longer feel stuck in my past. I use my experience to uplift others. “Thankyou to KAP and the donor”.
Annet’s story reflects the program’s success in restoring hope, rebuilding self-esteem and fostering resilience.
5. External Evaluation Findings: An External Evaluation of KAP’s programme (concluded in February 2026) confirmed meaningful and sustained impact, particularly among marginalized youth.
On Effectiveness, the evaluation highlighted strong outcomes across: Safe behaviour practices, Health awareness, Peacebuilding, Youth empowerment, Community strengthening among others
These results were attributed to: Strong community participation, Active volunteer involvement and Planned partnerships/networks.
On Youth Empowerment Outcomes: Within the “Unreached Youth” component, the Evaluation noted: 97% of participants reported increased confidence and improved mental wellbeing, Significant progress in self-reliance and emotional resilience, Improved capacity to navigate social and economic challenges.
6. Geographical Reach: This GlobalGiving project succesfully supported the Unreached Youths activities in the underserved and high-need areas of: Maridadi, Makunga, Mailisaba, Big Tree, Misanga, Namgoi (New Area) and Tuwan
These areas represent critical gaps in youth-focused services. KAP’s presence has helped bridge these gaps and foster more resilient, empowered communities.
7. Challenges: Despite the positive progress, several challenges are still observed: Limited resources for continuous follow-up and long-term engagement, Varying levels of commitment among some participants, External socio-economic pressures affecting consistent participation, for example unpredicted issues (GEN-Z demonstration). These factors highlight the need for continued investment and adaptive support approaches.
8. Conclusion: The Finishing Touches phase played a critical role in preparing youths for sustainable progress. The initiative continues to demonstrate meaningful impact, with strong potential for long-term transformation.
Most notably, participants are not only improving their own lives but are also supporting others; creating a ripple effect of resilience and hope within their communities. Thus, a continued engagement and support will be essential to keep these gains alive and ensure lasting impact.
