Youth Voices, Stronger Communities

Youth Advocates Annual Training
Youth Advocates Annual Training

Over the course of the summer, Cirquera de CAMELEON and CAMELEON’s Youth Advocates continued to share their talents and raise awareness of children’s rights, encouraging communities to learn more and get involved. Every performance and activity carries a message: young people have talents to share, voices to hear, and a role in shaping safer communities. Through this, CAMELEON nurtures this potential while advocating its vision of a world where every child is protected from sexual violence.

CAMELEON at Bastille Day | July 2026

On July 14, 2026, 11 members of Cirquera de CAMELEON (CDC) performed at the Bastille Day celebration of the French Embassy of the Philippines and Micronesia. This event provided an opportunity to share their talents and introduce CAMELEON’s Social Circus program to a wider audience. Through circus arts, the CDC showcased their skills, confidence, and teamwork. Their participation reflected CAMELEON’s commitment to helping young people express themselves, develop their abilities, and take an active role in representing its mission.

By bringing Social Circus to this celebration, CDC members helped raise awareness of CAMELEON’s work in promoting children’s rights and protection. Their performance demonstrated how creativity and youth participation can bring people together around a shared cause.

Social Circus in Passi City | August 2026

On August 2, 2026, 32 CDC members and 26 CAMELEON Youth Advocates (CYA) launched a month-long youth celebration with a Social Circus activity in Passi City. The event brought children, young people, and adults together through circus arts and community participation.

Organized in collaboration with Barangay Council officials (District Council) and the Youth Council, the activity welcomed 128 participants: 71 children under 12, 24 young people aged 13 and above, and 33 adults. Among the adults were 17 members of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children, highlighting the community’s involvement in supporting children.

By guiding participants through Social Circus activities, the young leaders put their skills into practice and took an active role in bringing their community together.

Testimony from Nika, a Circus Trainer, 18 years old: “Social Circus gives me a space to express myself and an opportunity to lead. When I perform or guide an activity, I want young people to know that their voices matter, their rights deserve protection, and they can help create change.”

Empowering Young Advocates to Speak Up for Child Protection | September 2023

CAMELEON’s 2026 Youth Advocates Annual Training series helped young leaders strengthen their communication skills, deepen their understanding of child protection, and prepare to lead awareness activities. The first session focused on public speaking, media interviews, and storytelling. Led by longtime partner and media practitioner Ms. Gerthrode Charlotte Tan-Mabilog, the workshop encouraged participants to speak confidently about community concerns and identify practical solutions.

On September 20, two speakers volunteered their expertise to help young advocates become more informed leaders about child protection and inclusion. Atty. Paulette Tongcua-Cuadras of the Public Attorney’s Office discussed laws addressing the age of sexual consent and online sexual abuse and exploitation of children. Ms. Darlene Joy Calsado of the University of the Philippines Visayas led and orientation on Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression.

On September 27, CYA alumni facilitated a Training of Trainers sessions, sharing practical advice on engaging young audiences, managing challenging behaviors, and answering difficult questions. Participants practiced their facilitation skills and received feedback to help them improve. This mentorship gave experienced alumni an opportunity to guide the next generation of youth advocates.

Your support helps these young advocates grow in confidence and build communities where every child feels valued, supported, and protected.
