Big Car has enjoyed helping bring a spring full of fun engaging people in outdoor spaces, both at our Service Center for Culture and Community location and in our focus areas on the near southside and downtown.
We recently hosted a Jane Jacobs Walk (on May 4) that took more than 50 people on either a 3 or 6 mile walk from Garfield Park to multiple near-southside neighborhoods. Check out photos from the day here.
We also, on April 27, hosted the local celebration of Neighborday at Service Center. This international initiative to bring neighbors together started with the online design and city-improvement community Good (www.good.is). That day visitors volunteered in our parking lot garden, participated in a home herbalist workshop or made and flew kites. That afternoon, hundreds of bike riders rolled down the middle of blocked-off city streets in Indianapolis Mayor Ballard's Spring Fever Bike Ride. Afterwards, riders hung out at Service Center and sipped some complimentary Sun King beers. Check out pictures from the awesome day here.
Looking forward, we're helping organize a huge day of fun on The Indianapolis Cultural Trail on Saturday, May 11. Called Get Down On It, this is a celebration of the completion of the trail and features multiple contributions from Big Car, including the project that brings multiple local high school marching bands in from around the trail to play Kool and the Gang's "Get Down On It" at City Market. Big Car also helped bring the grown up (sort of) marching band Mucca Pazza to Central Library during the day and later — with Know No Stranger — to White Rabbit Cabaret in Fountain Square. Both are part of the celebration. And Big Car's awesome creative director Andy Fry handled all of the design work for the celebration. We hope to see you there to celebrate with us!
