Dear Donors,
Greetings!!
As you know, for the development of our country, India Government is starting different programs to promote the employability of women and youth from a poor background. IDEA is actively participating in these initiatives and conducting various skill development programs for women and youth in different parts of Pune city. Where there is a will there is a way. This is what we experience when we work with these women, even a simple sewing machine can make a woman empowered and independent by making her earn for herself and for her family. Most of these women sewed dresses, blouses and other garments in their kitchen or hall as they had no funds to set up a shop. One such success story is of a woman named Sita.
Like every other girl from her community, Sita was deprived of formal education and could barely complete 8th grade. And then got married and taken up a lot of responsibilities on her shoulder. Everything went on smoothly for a while till her sons needed education.
When she learned about IDEA Vocational classes for women with no proper educational qualification she was interested in joining as this is the only way she could get a job and support her children with their education. Sita says "The course has boosted my confidence a lot.I didn't know how to stand out and do something on my own, but this course had given me a direction". Initially, she wishes to take up an advanced course in stitching. She is very certain that she wants to open her own shop where she can take orders for stitching and even sell ready made clothes. With the constant support of her family members and encouragement by IDEA team, she will soon fulfill her dream!
Sita has started her own tailoring classes and teaches approximately 9 students. "I started with 2 students, then other 2 ladies joined. The number increased and I hope to teach more" says Sita proudly. She takes 3-month tailoring courses for her students and also takes personal tailoring orders and makes blouses. During festival and wedding seasons, she earns up to Rs.5000-6000 per month. This makes her and independent business woman!
Thank you for your contribution!!
