Greetings from IDEA !

As a part of this project “Engage & Empower girls & boys for Girl Effect-India ” IDEA runs an employability enhancement program where youth and young women are imparted vocational training and life skill sessions. We are successfully conducting different courses under vocational training such as Beautician course, Tailoring classes, Fashion designing , Computer courses  and Electrician course. The course duration varies from 3 to 6 months. Along with these courses all the participants are imparted life skill classes and ‘spoken English classes’ as per their requirement. This year we have introduced a new course for cooking and catering, called ‘Home Chef’. After successful completion of these courses IDEA guides and supports the students for getting a job or for self- employment.

IDEA also conducts adolescent Health Education and Life Skill Education classes on a regular basis for adolescent girls in the community. We also provide health monitoring of women above 40 years , de-addiction programs for youth and  health and nutrition programs for women in slums. IDEA believes to make a deep, self-sustaining impact in the lives of female members of the family. It is crucial to provide them opportunities to receive education and earn income. Earning steady income enables our participants to provide for themselves and their families; to save for their children’s education; to invest in new businesses; and to become empowered decision-makers in their households.

Another program IDEA conducts is entrepreneur developmenet program(EDP) for women to encourage them to start their own small scale businesses. As we have understood that even after completing the skill development courses, many women lack confidence to start something new. They need little bit of handholding support. So we arrange EDP programs with the help of resource persons from different areas of expertise to guide  and give them informtion on different ways of starting and running a business.

These EDP programs are designed carefully by our Project Managers, so that every aspiring new entrepreneur will get a very good idea of successful business strategies. It  is important to understand the market demands, their own capability and interest , time management , finance management etc before jumping into business. India government has implemented  different policies for supporting women entrepreneurs.  The participants are given information on different governent schemes which support small scale businesses. It has been noted that after getting such vital information women are encouraged and motivated to earn money and become self sustainable. It really boosts their confidence in their ability.Our students  approach us whenever they need more support and assistance and we are glad to provide them guidance whenever required.

Reema gets a second chance….. 

Reema (name changed) started earning immediately after completing the basic beauty parlour course at IDEA. She worked as a recurring agent going door to door. But she was cheated and was at loss. So she decided to change her field. At was at this time she came to knew about IDEA and the courses launched. She immediately took admission for the course. Her previous skills helped her in customer networking and providing home service. She earns approx. Rs 8000/m by doing basic treatments. She is able to satisfy basic needs of the family. The 3 months course really changed her life,previously her husband's earning was not enough to make run the family, now she can think of giving higher education for  her son.

We are really proud to know that more than half of the women trained under IDEA skill development program have already started earning and supporting their families.
