Kavita’s visit was helpful for IDEA to use Global Giving Platform more effectively . OUR SINCERE THANKS TO GLOBAL GIVING FOR THIS WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY

An update  from the field

We have been imparting vocational skills for girls and young women to make them independent . Recently we have introduced a new course- Home Chef .

About Home Chef course

Under this course we teach women cookery, healthy way of cooking and how to cook on large scale . Once completed  the ‘Home Chef’ course, young women & girls’ will get better remuneration, self- employment opportunities like providing Tiffin boxes or even running small eateries  and will also benefit them skills and knowledge they acquire .

The First Batch of students of Home Chef course started the course on 24th Aug 2015 and completed  on 30th Dec 2015. The course was designed by experts of Food & Nutrition Dept, of a college of Home Science. Total 200 recipes were taught in 54 sessions. The course was conducted four days a week from Monday to Friday excluding Tuesday between 2:30 to 4:30 Pm.

Life skill sessions on motivation, goal setting, time management, Yoga were held for participants during the period to help them to be focused and to manage the different responsibilities skillfully keeping their physical & mental health strong.

Output:

Nine women have successfully completed the course, 8 securing’ A+’ Grade & 1 Securing ‘B’ Grade. Two of them have started their enterprise and are on the way to be entrepreneurs. The confidence level of all has increased and each one is willing to make use of the skills for livelihood.

  A story from the field

Manisha balances her family & work

Some people are just born to make business. And the story of Manisha is just like that. In partnership with her sister she has opened a beauty parlour and ladies shopping centre in the community area, but this way to success was not usual in her family - she was the writer of her own destiny.

Manisha came from a conservative family who preferred to have sons. She is 3rd among 5 sisters and got basic education till 10th grade .From beginning of school itself ,she was a quick learner and always enthusiastic  to learn new skills. She wanted to pursue further education but unfortunately got married in an early age. While handling responsibilities of two children she was in search of her own identity. She got associated with IDEA as a teacher for a year in learning centre for young children. But the responsibility of mother made her to leave current job .But Manisha was not among those mothers who consider motherhood is only aim of life. She thought of joining the tailoring course of her liking in the time available to her. She successfully completed the course and later joined the beauty parlour course and completed basic & advance course too. The exposure visit and the soft skill sessions held during the course motivated her to choose the option of self-employment instead of traditional way of looking for job. IDEA foundation provided her with a basic beauty kit and parlour chair to boost her confidence of own startup. Today, Manisha runs a shop , attend customers with equal attention and stitches cloths in spare time. She named her enterprise with her daughter’s name which again shows her equal affection to children. We are proud of Manisha for her multitasking abilities. She set up the example of Strong business women with equally loving mother.

An Appeal

We appreciate YOU for supporting IDEA to help many marginalized girls & young women through this project . We are planning to reach out to many more girls & women in remote locations in Maharashtra. We are seeking your continuous support for this expansion plan .

Thanking you in advance for your support
