Dear donors,
Warm greetings!
IDEA provides a second chance of learning through skill based training for the young girls and women in slum communities so that they could start earning supplementary income by becoming entrepreneurs. Some of them pick the skill very well and become self starters. Deepali (name changed) is one of them. Read her story in her own words.
Deepali- An innovator
“I belong to a conservative community in India. I could not complete graduation because of early marriage. After marriage, I learnt Fashion Designing and then started stitching garments. My husband and my in-laws support me as they are not very conservative. I stay in a joint family and as far as I am fulfilling all my household responsibilities, I have no obligations from my family. Initially, I used to spend my leisure time in stitching and making of imitation jewellery which I had learnt before. Then I came to know about the Art & craft course conducted by IDEA. I enrolled myself with a thought that I can spend my free time in learning something new. But this course gave me an insight of many new things which I was not aware of. First I learnt Paper quilling, different types of painting etc. Whenever I went in vacation at my mother’s place in my native, I got opportunity to explore my talent and creativity. I conducted Art & Craft classes over there. My art was highly appreciated by some foreign visitors and they placed order of paper quilling items. This boosted my confidence. I have sold 1000 rakhis last year. My work has a great demand. IDEA built confidence in me. I regularly work as an instructor for IDEA and feel proud of it”
Deepali has taught art & craft to 2 batches so far. Her creativity has no limit. She has recently made beautiful decorative paper hand bags. She gets orders for the same. She adds value to her products by researching on market products and makes them unique. She works on each item with an artistic view. It seems she has found a magic stone which makes all opportunities golden for her.
Thank you dear donors for enabling us to carve such creative girls out their shell. Bonus day is round the corner. It is on 16th September. Please do not forget to make your contribution. It is because of your support we continue our intervention for the neediest people. Thank you for being a part of empowerment of these women.
