Meena- an inspiration for all
Meena- an inspiration for all

Dear Donors,

Greetings from IDEA!

Many young intelligent girls from the communities are at a loss regarding their careers after completing their schooling. Lack of opportunities and financial restraints mean that they don’t study further and have to take up odd jobs to sustain themselves. What a waste of talent!

We encourage such talented girls to join our Basic Nursing course which offers both theory and practical knowledge. All they need to bring is a little patience and lots of empathy for the patients. After completion of the course an exam is held and all successful students are placed at local hospitals and clinics. (More than 80% Nursing students are either employed or self employed.)

Nursing as a profession is greatly rewarding and professional nurses are always in huge demand. We have been running basic Nursing courses since the past 3 years for girls from underprivileged communities. It is a 6 month course and the minimum qualification required is successful completion of std. 10th.

It is very satisfying to see many of our students working and indeed a delight when their employers call to discuss their progress with us. Some hardworking girls even attend house calls and they are a blessing for ailing children and elderly. We are proud of their achievement and contribution to the health care of the society. We met Meena a former IDEA Nursing student who works a 12 hour shift everyday and also attends house calls. We asked her doesn’t it tire her? why does she work so hard? Her answer was simple “It is the most satisfying thing I have ever done in my life”. While starting this Nursing course we always thought about what these girls can get never thought about what they can give, Meena has changed the way we think.

A new batch of 10 Nursing students has been running smoothly since a month. We are also in the process of starting an advanced leg of the course which will have an updated syllabus and will include life skill sessions to make the students job ready. All the girls in the present batch want to make a career in Nursing and are very happy with their teacher who is more like their friend. Lata- a student from the current batch says “I got so much knowledge within such a short time and our teacher also helps us a lot. I wish I get a job soon”

These hard working girls always inspire us and we are always thinking of ways to make their dreams come true. Every contribution you make is empowering a girl. Please continue supporting them, because they are our future. Thank you!
