Dear friends and donors,
Thank you for supporting “THE GIRL EFFECT”
Empowering girls is a continuous process, especially girls from underprivileged backgrounds. We at IDEA focus on such girls and provide them with financial support and encouragement. Providing them not just with quality education through our study centres but also encouraging them to participate in extra-curricular activities which enhance their overall personalities. This time we were very happy to notice that our continual support to these young girls is showing results. Girls from IDEA have excelled not just in their 10th board exams but are also achieving success in athletics and art and crafts.
EMPOWERING GIRLS THROUGH EDUCATION
Girls for whom even completing their high school education was a challenge due to poor conditions at home have today come out as toppers. Through our sponsorship programme these girls are not just completing their schooling but are passing their board exams with flying colours. In the last academic year 2012-13, 50 sponsored children from IDEA appeared for 10th board exams, 78% of them being girls and we are proud to say that all these girls have scored good marks. It was indeed a joyous occasion to felicitate these young girls. We hope that they continue their studies further. Four out of five of our toppers are girls:
Kajal - 93%
Nutan - 90%
Somnath - 83.60%
Pooja - 80.20%
Ganga - 75%
One of these bright intelligent girls is Nutan and we are happy to share with you her story-
Nutan - a real braveheart
Nutan was referred to IDEA’s sponsorship programme when she was in 8th grade. Her mother was terminally ill and so the family’s meager income was spent on her medicines and treatment. Nutan was taken in for the sponsorship programme and given financial aid and emotional support by our study centre teachers. Her father felt relieved as he saw Nutan flourishing at the study centre, but soon her mother passed away just two months before her board exams. We were very worried about the family’s emotional well being and Nutan’s studies and our team of social workers supported the family in every way. Nutan was provided with textbooks, clothes, medical kits and other study material along with psychological counseling. We are happy to say that she did not let all our efforts go waste and secured an excellent score of 90% in 10th Std board exams. Now Nutan is pursuing her degree in Computer Engineering in one of the best colleges in Pune. Her tale of courage and determination inspires us all.
Friends, it is because of donors like you that girls like Nutan are fulfilling their dreams. Please continue supporting “THE GIRL EFFECT” so that together we make more such dreams come true.
