Dear friends and donors !
Greetings!
We are here again with an update from the field. This time we would like to present stories of two girls whose lives have changed due to the impact of your support.
Timely support saved Vaishali from dropping out of school!
“I shall complete my 12th std externally. Thank you Kanchan Didi and IDEA . You have given me new life and hope.” These are the words of Vaishali. She is in sponsorship program for last five years. She hails from a single parent family whose condition is very poor. Her illiterate mother works as street sweeper. Her mother struggles to meet two time meals for herself and her daughter . She had decided to discontinue Vaishali’s education because she was unable to bear expenses on education being enrolled in private school after completing elementary education in Government school. She was attending IDEA’s Study center supported by Global Giving where she got time to time guidance from the teacher in academics. Vaishali too was very upset that she would have to forget her dream of joining a high school. At this juncture our social worker intervened and took Vaishali under the sponsorship program and this enabled her to meet all her scholastic expenses on school fee, school bag, uniform & other school stationary.
Now she is in 11th grade and was also pursuing a Basic Nursing course of 6 months. Suddenly she started falling ill and had severe weakness. In spite of counseling her mother for timely medical check up, she did not give proper attention. Vaishali’s health deteriorated day by day and her social worker Kanchan intervened and took her to a Doctor. She was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. Without wasting time , her treatment was started and Vaishali herself and her mother were counseled to take medicines as per schedule. Vaishali is provided with supplementary nutrition in the form of egg and milk . With her social workers’ guidance and your valuable support, today Vaishali is confident of completing her Education. She wants to be independent and support her mother .
We thank our Donors from bottom of our heart to support Vaishali and to bring back the smile on her face.
A girl with determination to be independent.
This is a life story of Sayali; her name means a white colored delicate small flower, in Indian languages.
Sayali is from a small village called Shirgaon, in Maharashtra . She lost her father when she was 12 years old. He was a severe alcoholic person. Her mother Manisha, did the work of a part time maid servant to earn a livelihood. She has two brothers. Her mother could educate her till 12th std only. She had an urge to take further education but because of poor family condition she could not continue her education. She had learnt stitching and started doing job work of tailoring at home to support her mother. She got married after a few years. Soon she got engrossed in her household work and other family responsibilities in upbringing her two children. Though she wanted to study further and be independent, she curbed her wishes as her children are small .
During our student mobilization sessions for skill development, Sayali came to know about various courses. Her aspiration became alive once again. IDEA’s office was near her residence. She came to office to do detail enquiry on the vocational courses she could manage within her limitations. Sayali joined the six months basic course of Nursing. As the classes began, Sayali became a devoted student . She got internship in a hospital for 3 months and seeing her sincerity and capability, she was offered to continue her service there itself once she successfully completed her course. Along with it she is also assisting another Doctor in hair transplantation. She is earning approx RS 8000/Pm. She is extremely happy with her progress. Sayali says,’ I love my work. I was initially scared to communicate with Doctors. But now I have overcome that fear. My husband and children have been supporting me and are also proud of me. I have many more things to learn. This is just the beginning. I have a desire to do an advanced course in Nursing”.
Thank you note from IDEA and an Appeal for support :-
We are very thankful to you and looking for your continued support!
