By Snezana | GHNI TCD Leader
Just last month, a short-term team (STT) from Orlando, Florida was on the ground in the Roma/Gypsy village of Dorgovska Mahala, Lebane, Serbia. In every capacity, this team complemented each other as they served the local community in basic health evaluations of blood work, urine analysis, blood pressure, weight and height, and eye exams.
We in GHNI are extremely proud of this team, as they worked so well together, allowing the translator, Filip, to weave through all the activities for three days of nonstop fun, relationship building, and the serious nature of health screenings. Though we initially expected reluctance from the Roma community, they quickly took to us and our desire to serve in these capacities.
Transformational Community Development (TCD) was taught on two different days, and a measurably high percentage of the attendees ended the sessions eager to implement what they had learned so far! This certainly excites us in GHNI, as it means the local TCD trainer, Snezana, has both done an excellent job of preparing their lives relationally for sustainable development and will be allowed to continue investing in their lives in the coming years.

The year ahead looks extremely promising as we look to Snezana for continued leadership and the hope of adding an additional trainer from within this Roma/Gypsy community! This potential person is key in allowing them to lift themselves out of generational entrenched poverty.
