Helpers Foundation work to ending cervical and ovarian cancer in Nigeria through community case finding and prevention education awareness . Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Nigerian women and the second leading cause of cancer deaths for women aged 15-44.Yet, these cancers are preventable and treatable when detected early. Early screening, HPV vaccination, and community action-especially in rural areas.
Cervical and ovarian cancers remain serious public health challenges for Nigeria citizens, contributing significantly to illness and preventable deaths among women. Nigeria bears one of the highest burdens of cervical cancer in sub-Saharan Africa, with thousands of new cases and deaths recorded annually. Many women are diagnosed at advanced stages, when treatment is more difficult, costly, and less effective. Roughly 7,900 deaths annually from cervical cancer have been estimated in Nigeria.
Through community sensitization and referral support, the program encourages early medical evaluation of ovarian cancer symptoms. This project will reduces stigma and cultural barriers by collaborating with community health workers, nurses, doctors religious and traditional leaders. The program encourage open discussion about cancer prevention. The Ending Cervical and Ovarian Cancer Awareness program will addresses the root causes of preventable deaths among Nigerian women.
The Ending Cervical and Ovarian Cancer Awareness program has the potential to create lasting, transformative change in Nigeria by addressing prevention, early detection, and community health systems. In the long term, this program will help shift Nigeria from late-stage cancer response to early prevention and care-saving lives, protecting families, and building a healthier future for women and girls.
