As there are many women-headed households in some of the poorest sections of the community in to a variety of social problems related to unemployment, migrant labour, substance abuse, etc., women and youth are a key focus of SDCEA’s capacity building activities which are an integral part of SDCEA’s work. SDCEA recognizes that it is essential for women receive support to strengthen their knowledge and skills in order to create change and overcome the challenges of living in a predominantly patriarchal culture and an unhealthy environment.
SDCEA’s activities are also centered on the belief that building knowledge through youth groups and schools empowers youth to have greater agency in their lives as well as creating a generation that can take environmental justice forward.
SDCEA continues to create local action against pollution in South Durban by creating national and international links that will have a sustained impact on policy, regulation and public perceptions towards a healthier environment.
With your support, SDCEA can continue to support the achievement of creating subsistence livelihoods in South Durban through sustained conservation and access to natural and other resources.
