Making a difference

By Sally Korkin | Executive Director, Cedar Village Foundation

Cedar Village Hospice just celebrated its one year anniversary.  Since beginning in March 2011, the hospice team has served 65 patients from either Cedar Village or the community.

One of the goals of end-of-life care is to focus on quality of life care for patients and their families.  As a result, very strong relationships between patients and caregivers develop over time.

Recently, a Cedar Village Hospice patient had been in the hospital.  Death was imminent and the hospice team was aware that it was very important to both the patient and his daughter that he not die in unfamiliar surroundings, The team arranged his release from the hospital so that he could die in a peaceful home setting,  Just a few short hours after his release, he died at home.  His daughter was extremely relieved and grateful that hospice was there to fulfill this wish.

As our hospice program grows, we will focus on community education so that others can die peacefully in their “home.”

Thank you for your support!
