We are excited to share the progress we've made in our journey to empower students from the Omo Valley. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’ve taken a significant step forward by supporting Maya Shansho, a first-year veterinary student from the Hamar community. Maya is the first in his family to receive formal education, and with our support, he aims to become the first veterinarian from his community.
This past field season, we were able to provide Maya with a laptop, an essential tool that will immensely aid him in his studies and exam preparation. Veterinary medicine is crucial for the Hamar people, who rely heavily on livestock for their livelihoods. Maya's goal is not only to complete his degree but also to return to his community as a knowledgeable leader, capable of improving the health and sustainability of local herds.
Maya expressed his gratitude, saying, "Without assistance from OVRP, I never would have been able to study to be a vet. I hope my success serves to inspire and encourage other Hamar youth to go to school."
As we continue to raise funds, every contribution brings us closer to supporting more students like Maya, who are eager to make a lasting impact on their communities. Thank you for your continued support in transforming lives through education!
