Bringing a Smoke-Free Future to Life on Our Street

By Ikechukwu Kelechukwu | Project Lead

Dear Donors,

We’re excited to share the first progress update for Youth for a Smoke-Free Future, a community-driven initiative using creative street engagement to prevent youth smoking and promote healthy living.

Thanks to your early support, we’ve begun laying the foundation for an impactful World No Tobacco Day campaign that combines youth empowerment, public health awareness, and community outreach in a dynamic and engaging way.

What’s Happening Now

Our team is actively preparing to transform busy urban spaces into vibrant health awareness hubs where young people can:

  • Participate in sports challenges and recreational activities
  • Enjoy live music and youth-led performances
  • Engage in interactive anti-smoking education sessions
  • Access free lung health screenings and preventive care
  • Receive peer support and guidance on quitting tobacco

By integrating health education with entertainment, we’re breaking down barriers and making tobacco prevention relatable, visible, and impactful.

Why This Matters

Tobacco use remains one of the leading causes of preventable deaths worldwide, and many smokers begin before the age of 18. In Nigeria, rising exposure to peer pressure, tobacco marketing, and urban street culture continues to put young people at risk.

Without early intervention, many youth face:

  • Lifelong nicotine addiction
  • Increased risk of cancer, heart disease, and respiratory illness
  • Reduced productivity and quality of life

Our approach focuses on early prevention, youth engagement, and behavior change communication—proven strategies to reduce smoking initiation and support quitting.

The Impact We’re Building

With your support, this project will:

  • Reach hundreds of at-risk youth through community-based outreach
  • Increase awareness of the dangers of tobacco use
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and smoke-free choices
  • Support early quitting through peer education and counseling
  • Contribute to a long-term reduction in tobacco-related diseases

We are not just running an event—we are helping shape a smoke-free generation.

How You Can Help

We’ve made great progress, but we still need your support to bring this vision fully to life.

Your donation will help us:

  • Set up mobile health screening stations
  • Provide educational materials and outreach tools
  • Support youth volunteers and facilitators
  • Organize safe, engaging community activities

Every contribution—big or small—helps protect a young person from a lifetime of addiction.

Donate today and be part of a movement creating healthier communities and saving lives.

Together, we can turn awareness into action—and action into lasting change.

Thank you for believing in a smoke-free future.
