It has been an exciting few months at the Shamwari Foundation, and we wanted to share a glimpse of what your support is helping make possible.

From the animals we care for, to the people we work alongside, every project contributes to our bigger vision of protecting wildlife, supporting communities and creating a sustainable future for people and nature.

From heartbreak to hope

Our rhino rehabilitation team continues to care for vulnerable orphaned calves. Our newest arrival, little Bhuti, came to us at just four months old after losing his mother. Today, he is stronger, confidently grazing outside and forming a special bond with fellow orphan Ox.

At our Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, rescued meerkats are also finding their way back to what they have lost, family. After experiencing isolation and captivity, they are beginning to form stable social groups and rediscover the natural behaviours they will need to return to the wild.

374+ animals receiving essential veterinary care

Through our Kathalela community animal welfare programme, more than 374 dogs and cats received veterinary care during two outreach days in July.

We are now working towards our next big step: a mobile veterinary trailer that will allow our team to take sterilisation campaigns directly into surrounding communities.

Turning opportunity into lasting change

Conservation also creates opportunities for people.

Through one of our community employment projects, three local team members who initially joined us on a casual basis have since moved into permanent employment, within our Wildlife Department, Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and our security partner, Consec.

What started as a short-term opportunity became experience, skills and a pathway to a career.

Protecting wildlife today and preparing for tomorrow

Our conservation teams continue working around the clock to protect rhinos, supported by improved monitoring technology, night-vision equipment, drones and AI-powered rhino collars.

These tools are helping our teams strengthen protection and respond more effectively in the field.

And this is only the beginning.

Every animal treated.
Every orphan that takes another step towards the wild.
Every rescued animal that finds its place again.
Every person who is given an opportunity.

These are the moments that make conservation meaningful.
