Meridian Institute continues to support and coordinate the work of the Plastic Reclaimers Working Group (PRW). Recent activities include facilitating the engagement of waste reclaimers in Global Treaty Dialogue sessions convened by the Ocean Plastics Leadership Network with support from Meridian. Waste reclaimers have an important voice that must be included in the discussions and negotiations regarding the content of a Global Treaty on Plastics, on which global negotiations under the auspices of the UN Environment Program are being initiatied. Meridian is also exploring additional programmatic and funding oppportunities in support of the PRW. Opportunities include collaboration with other platforms and initiatives that engage waste reclaimers, dialogue with private sector companies who are looking to increase their supply of recycled plastics to help them meet their recycled content goals and discussions with philanthropies who have an interest in support programs on behalf of waste reclaimers.
