Meridian Institute continues to convene and support the work of the Plastic Reclaimers Working Group (PRW). Specifically, we have facilitated the engagement of PRW members and other waste reclaimers from around the world in the Global Treaty Dialogue process that is being led by the Ocean Plastics Leadership Network (OPLN). These dialogues are being convened at both the global and country level to engage multiple stakeholder groups in learning about the prospect of the global plastics treaty. It is very important that waste reclaimers have the opportunity to engage in these discussions so their interests and concerns are taken into account in the development of a global treaty. A decision on whether to proceed with treaty negotiations will be made at the UN Environmental Assembly in Nairobi in later February.
Meridian is also working with the PRW to expand membership and engagement with the group so their mutual education and networking influence can be increased and the resources obtained through this GG site and elsewhere can be shared more broadly to support the critically important work of increasing environmental and health safeguards and wages for waste reclaimers.
