Its been wondeful first semester for NGO Impact, full of activities, meetings and many new projects. Here are all moments of 2016:
Impact Textile, a sectoral program Within impact, is known for ITS work towards the empowerment and dignification of indigenous craftswomen. It Promotes the appreciation of textile handicrafts, as well as the positioning of the Strengthening and ethical textile craft sector.
We have achieved so far, eight Important collaborations with designers and brands, 75 women from differents comunitties have been benefited from design workshops and product improvement, which it has strengthened their capabilities as leaders and empowered women.
Collaborations Between brands and designers
• Carmen Rion is a designer with extensive experience in the sector, Carmen, combines traditional embroidery and new techniques, also implements design workshops and product development. With Carmen workshops the artisans can experience new designs and manufacturing techniques of their products.
• Tunics Kitza is a brand of swimwear, beachwear and accessories, with handcrafted details, is a mix of movement and culture inspired by the indigenous roots of the world, seeking support and help preserving the traditions of different cultures. This collaboration has ended. And was performed with women in the communities of Huixtan C. and Bochil.
• Aitana, is a brand that designs home furniture, this collection was made with women from the communities of Aldama. And is still in process.
• Andrea Velazco, is a young designer of couture clothing made by women of Bochil, SJCancuc and is still in process.
• Lacompré is a company that emerges from a long process of gestation and brings together the efforts of Tsotsiles craftswomen and tseltales of Altos de Chiapas, Mexico. The second collection will be out soon.
• Lek Lek, boutique, clothing designed for children with embroidered handmade by women artisans from the Altos de Chiapas, the first collection was completed and will start with the second collection in the coming months.
• Viento de tierra, a local company focused on the design of baby shawls, chargers or rebozo, this collection was done with 12 women from Huixtán and Bochil.
In addition to these collaborations, we have been implemented 4 workshops, where more than 50 women have benefited, all from different communities, (SJ Cancuc, Huixtán C, Bochil, Aldama and Santiago El Pinar)
This workshops also helps to improve the method applied in each of them, strengthening the methodology and one day we can replicate this system to other communities or artisans.
Workshops:
In order to strengthen business áreas, two events were held this year: masdedos bazaar. This concept combine contemporary textile projects in Chiapas that Work collaboratively in various disciplines, using design and handicrafts as a common theme. Participating projects not only explore the possibilities for tangible Proposals for artisanal products, They Have Begun Also to process of deep reflection on work Procedures, symbols, craft techniques, and the application of design as an agent of change in the reality of Chiapas craftsmen. As a result, This has generated a set of projects are influenced that by the context in Which They develop, and have led to collaborative practices Cultural With highly symbolic and ethical value. At the present time Masdedos Bazaar has 2 editions of ITS Bazaar.
