2016 officially started with a new group of boys and girls that happily signed up for our football (soccer) and field hockey programs. In total, 70 boys and girls from 12 to 17 years old began with trainings last week, after a signing in process that inlcude their commitment (and their families) to the programs.
As usual, all the participants are provided with all the equipment needed to do proper trainings: football boots, field hockey sticks, balls, etc. For many boys, it's the first time they have the chance to choose which type of boot they would like to use. And for most ot younger ones, this decision is made by checking which boot is using their favourite player. "Cristiano or Messi?", is a never ending debate you can hear each day between them. But it relfects that they already feel like peers, they are also football players now and this change of attitude is already a milestone.
Meanwhile, the girls are not so focused in the equipment, but in taking care that the 'old' ones mix with the new ones. The historic participants are making sure that everyone feels comfortable and motivated, explanining hockey techniques, being proactive in initiating conversations and smiling a lot.
Coming month, competitions are starting, with weekly games on weekends.
Thanks to your support we can keep on providing high level sports program!
PS: Meantime, in Buenos Aires, our program director Luz Amuchastegui had the chance to talk to President Barack Obama about social entrepreneurship and the role of NGOs in social change.
