Creating Inclusive Communities Through Sign Language
At the Deaf Welfare Awareness Foundation (DWAF), we believe that inclusion begins with communication. Thanks to the generous support of our GlobalGiving donors, we are making steady progress in breaking communication barriers through Pakistani Sign Language (PSL) training.
In just the past three months, DWAF has successfully conducted more than 10 sign language training sessions across a wide range of institutions, including educational institutions, hospitals and healthcare facilities, food chains, textile industries, manufacturing companies, government organizations, and private sector workplaces. These sessions help participants learn basic sign language, enabling them to communicate more effectively with Deaf individuals and create welcoming, inclusive environments.
Our initial target is to train more than 500 people, but this is only the beginning. Our long-term vision is to expand this initiative across Pakistan so that every sector—including schools, universities, hospitals, businesses, public institutions, and service providers—has access to basic sign language training. We believe no institution should be left behind in the journey toward inclusion.
This impact is only possible because of your generosity. Funding is the key to expanding these trainings, reaching more communities, and creating equal opportunities for Deaf people to access education, healthcare, employment, and public services without communication barriers.
Thank you, GlobalGiving donors, for standing with DWAF and the Deaf community. Together, we are building a more inclusive Pakistan—one sign, one session, and one community at a time.
