Hekima Place 2022 Impact Report

We are so grateful for each and every one of you for your commitment and support to the girls of Hekima Place. Because of you, each child who comes under our care has an opportunity to create a brighter future for not only themselves but for their communities, for Kenya, and for the world.

In 2022, we faced many challenges from international conflict and extreme drought to inflation but with the support of each donor, each church partner, each inspired partner who stood by us, we were able to meet the increased need of support with open arms.

You are opening doors to incredible opportunities. You are creating a loving space for each child to grow and thrive. You are ensuring access to quality education to empower each child’s future.

With so much gratitude, we want to share just a few of the highlights from 2022 with our Hekima Family

•   Groundbreaking of the Science Lab

Last spring, Hekima Place asked for support to fund a very important project. We know that if we all want to be part of the solution to break cyclical poverty for the girls and women in Kenya, it’s critical that we remove barriers and provide them with educational opportunities that will allow them to advance. Because it’s increasingly difficult for women to break into the science fields, we’re working to be part of a solution by building a science lab on the Hekima Hills campus to provide educational pathways for girls into science-related careers.

Our new science lab will provide resources, including books, technology, and teachers, for the girls at Hekima Hills Learning Centre. We’re happy to share that throughout 2022 crews in Kenya have been hard at work and the science lab is now ready for the new semester.

This lab would not be possible without you, thank you so much for continuing to invest in the lives of the children at Hekima Place.

• 16 new girls join Hekima Place in 2022

2022 was full of blessings for Hekima Place and because of our donors, we were able to welcome 16 new children to our home. Due to the economic climate and drought conditions, families are struggling to survive in Kenya and the increasing cost of everything from food to medicine and school supplies make hard situations become desperate. This was an unprecedented number of children for us in one year, but Hekima Place remains committed to providing each girl that comes to us with where she is and what she needs. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to welcome each girl, and today, each girl is thriving. 

• Come Together concert

In late July, we were grateful to gather many of our closest friends and supporters in the Pittsburgh area to experience a Beatles Tribute Band, Come Together! We were excited to share this experience with so many of our supporters who had a wonderful night singing and dancing while helping us to raise nearly $8,000 for Hekima Place. We’re excited to share that we will be hosting this event again in 2023. Keep an eye out for details on our social media pages!
