MVET Institute for Empowering Samburu Women

At the MVET Institute, we remain committed to providing vocational education and life-changing opportunities for women from vulnerable and marginalized communities. Despite the economic challenges facing many families in northern Kenya, our trainees continue to demonstrate remarkable determination to learn, grow, and transform their futures.

Over the past few months, our students have continued receiving hands-on training in tailoring and dressmaking, beadwork and traditional crafts, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and financial management. Alongside technical skills, they also participate in life skills sessions that focus on leadership, confidence building, reproductive health awareness, and financial independence.

One inspiring story is that of a young Samburu mother who joined the institute with no source of income. After learning tailoring and business management, she has begun making school uniforms and traditional garments for her local community. The income she now earns enables her to buy food for her children, contribute to school expenses, and save towards purchasing her own sewing machine. Her journey is a powerful reminder that when one woman is empowered, an entire family benefits.

Beyond vocational skills, the institute has become a safe space where women encourage one another, build lasting friendships, and discover their potential. Many participants tell us they now have renewed hope and confidence to pursue opportunities they never imagined possible.

While we celebrate these achievements, significant challenges remain. The demand for training continues to grow, yet many women cannot afford tuition fees, learning materials, accommodation, or transport. We also need additional sewing machines, computers, classroom furniture, and training equipment to accommodate more students.

With your continued partnership, we hope to:

• Enrol more vulnerable Samburu women into vocational training programmes.

• Increase access to modern training equipment and learning resources.

• Expand entrepreneurship and financial literacy programmes.

• Support graduates with business start-up kits and mentorship.

• Create stronger pathways to employment and self-employment for women across Samburu County.
