Unleashing Potential: Empowering Youth and Transforming Dogs

The Underdog Team

In the last quarter, The Underdog Project has seen remarkable growth and innovation in our programs. Our commitment to empowering youth through transformative interactions with shelter dogs continues to yield inspiring results, and we're excited to share some of our key achievements with our GlobalGiving community.

New Opportunities for Engagement

We've expanded our program offerings to include two additional youth sessions each week, significantly increasing our capacity to engage with more young people. These sessions have provided essential skills and experiences that help shape the personal and professional lives of our participants.

Inclusive Sessions

A highlight of this quarter was the introduction of a special session tailored for deaf children. This inclusive approach not only broadens our impact but also enriches the experience for all participants, fostering a more diverse and supportive community.

End of Year Dog Show

Our annual End of Year Dog Show was a resounding success, showcasing the hard work and dedication of our participants and their canine partners. This event not only celebrated their achievements but also highlighted the unique bond between the youth and their dogs.

Enhancing Communication Skills

Responding to the need for robust communication skills in today's digital world, our Peer Leaders have developed new content on communication, focusing on email and WhatsApp etiquette. This crucial curriculum helps prepare our youth for the professional environment, teaching them the subtleties of digital communication.

Pilot Program on Self-Esteem

We also launched a new pilot program focusing on self-esteem with eight male adolescents. This program addresses confidence in uncertain situations—a vital skill for both personal development and effective dog training.

New Canine Participants

Our program welcomed five new dogs this quarter, each bringing their unique personality and challenges. Working with these dogs allows our participants to apply their training skills in real-time, adapting to different behaviors and needs.

Innovative Training Techniques

Notably, our past graduates have been working on developing new tricks for enhancing the dogs' skills and providing exciting challenges for both the trainers and the dogs. The three new scent games have proven to be very successful, engaging both the youth and their canine partners in dynamic and enriching ways.

Looking Forward

As we move forward, we are committed to building on these successes, exploring new opportunities for growth, and continuing to make a significant impact in the lives of both our youth and our canine friends. We are grateful for the support of the GlobalGiving community, which has been instrumental in our achievements. Together, we are making a difference, one youth and one dog at a time.
