After the successful completion of the boot camp phase, We have now had 3 monthly meetups for the fellows:
Finally, after BootCamp, 15 of our fellows are paired with 15 mentors who are working professionals and have 2 years or more experience working in Tech. The pairing was done based on the interest shown by fellows on what they think they wanted and by looking into the expertise of the mentors. During the pairing, mentors also delivered one one-on-one session to their mentee on goal setting and they have a final set of goals they want to work on by the end of the 4 months of the mentorship program.
The second meetup was held on September 16, 2023, on CV writing session and School Activities briefing. It aimed to comprehensively understand the program's design, curriculum, and participants' experiences. They learn the importance of concise and impactful content, emphasizing accomplishments and skills that are most relevant to their career goals. Practical tips and insights are shared to help participants structure their CVs effectively. The second half of the session takes a deeper dive into the finer details of CV writing. Participants refine their CVs, ensuring clarity, professionalism, and a strong representation of their unique qualifications. This session equips WLiT Fellows with a valuable skill that will aid in securing career opportunities and boost their confidence as they navigate the tech job market.
Then the School Activities session was led by an interim team member as training of Trainers (ToT), with the help of this session, fellows will now prepare the content and deliver 2 new sessions on Hour of Code and internet safety sessions including Career counseling to high school students of government schools in Lumbini Province.
The third meetup was done on Language in leadership (lead session) and best coding practices (technical session). During the "Language in Leadership" session, WLiT delved into the nuances of effective communication. They learn how to convey complex technical concepts in a manner that is understandable to both technical and non-technical audiences, a skill crucial for leadership roles. The session also emphasizes the importance of active listening, empathy, and adaptability in communication, enabling leaders to build strong relationships with their teams and stakeholders. By mastering the language of leadership, participants gain a valuable toolset that empowers them to inspire, influence, and lead effectively in the dynamic and ever-evolving tech industry. This session is a testament to WLiT's commitment to nurturing well-rounded leaders who not only excel in technology but also in interpersonal and communication skills. For the best coding practice, the industry expert with more than 10 years of experience taught fellows how to write sharable, effective code to enhance the scalability of their project. It was a deep dive into how they can manage repositories and structure their project so it would be easier to work collaboratively in a team, along with how code is reviewed at workspace. This helped fellows to restructure the code base that they were working on and be mindful to use the standard coding practice while working on their project
