Re: Breaking Ground: International Women’s Day and Loans for Women in Dschang
Breaking Ground’s Women’s Entrepreneurial Program, active since 2007, gives local women the skills they need to successfully run their own business, promoting women’s leadership in Cameroon. The program has successfully provided over 250 women with business skills such as budgeting, marketing, conducting feasibility studies, and cost analysis, providing them with the ability to achieve their entrepreneurial goals.
This month, on March 8, Breaking Ground celebrated International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate women and recognize their contributions to society. Breaking Ground is a firm believer that women around the globe deserve equal rights and opportunities, which is why many of our programs focus on women and girls. In order to celebrate Women’s Day this year, Breaking Ground decided to participate in a radio program at the University of Dschang, inciting a community discussion on gender roles, women’s rights, and the future of women around the globe.
Additionally, Breaking Ground continues to monitor the loans that were distributed to women in our most recent round of business classes. Since 2007, over 82 loans have been given to local women, who will use the funds to begin or expand their businesses. In any development project, management is key; Breaking Ground monitors the funds to ensure they are spent for their intended purpose and that the loans are repaid in a timely manner.
Breaking Ground continues to support Cameroonian women and all that they do. Happy International Women’s Day from Breaking Ground! Let’s continue to support the advancement of women’s rights in Cameroon and around the globe.
Sincerely,
Paul Zangue
Executive Director
