BG Report on Women Entrepreneurship Program

Period: March to June 2015

In the framework of its women entrepreneurship program, Breaking Ground trains women in Cameroon in the management of small businesses and gives small grants to boot or strengthen their businesses.

During the period of March to April 3, 2015, the program launched another training session for women. It helped recruit and train 27 participants. These women aged from 20 to 60 are mothers seeking income to take care of their children or are young women who abandoned school and want to join the working life.

For seven weeks, they learned how to create and manage a business, its budget and finances, and the way to ensure good customer service.

Other actors in the promotion of small businesses were invited to present and discuss with participants opportunities and procedures to develop a business. Thus, they met officials of microfinance institutions to exchange on how to access micro-credit and other financial services. The intervention of the administration officials allowed participants to understand the small business-operating environment and the policies that the State is implementing to promote women and small businesses.

Once their training completed, the women will set up projects. A mixed commission composed of experts and women leaders will sit in two months to select the best projects that will receive grants ranging from 100 000 to 500 000 CFA franc ($170-$900).
