Early stoves in local potters association

We are excited to report progress on our project, “Empower Women and Save Lives through Cookstoves”. While still fundraising, we are currently preparing to facilitate the first training session for potters associations in Kembata Tembaro Zone to produce high quality “Gonzye” cookstoves. A representative of the local Water & Energy Office has helped us identify the priority training needs, including 40 target trainees.  Please help us today to facilitate this quality training, provide sustainable supplies for the potters and support clean cookstove promotion in the community.

November 2014 marked the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves summit in New York, where leaders pledged more support toward the initiative. However, many rural communities in countries like Ethiopia have yet to be reached, including our target area in Tembaro Woreda. A barrier that prevents many Ethiopian households from using clean cookstoves is their lack of availability. In Tembaro woreda, there are potters associations and the raw materials necessary to produce these stoves. However, skills training and supplies (such as Gonzye molds) are needed to improve the efficiency and quality of their production. With more support, our project will train more potters identified in the area and equip them to produce these locally appropriate stoves for their communities.

NEED – We need to meet our fundraising goal to supply all of training materials and production supplies needed by the cookstove associations. YOU – Learn about clean cookstoves and the many benefits they provide to mothers, children, household finances, and the environment!  Spread the word and consider donating to our project if you can. SUCCESS –Your contributions will build the capacity of rural potters and the well-being of mothers and children who use their stoves; making our effort a success!
