This Project will support vulnerable adolescents living and spending time on the streets of Masaka city and in Nyendo slum communities, where many face unstable living conditions, substance use, violence, neglect, and limited access to mental-health support. The project will create safe spaces for mental-health awareness, peer support, life-skills activities and appropriate referrals, helping adolescents develop healthy coping skills, resilience, hope and safer pathways for their future.
In Nyendo slums and Masaka City streets, many vulnerable adolescents live in unstable conditions, sleep outdoors and are exposed to alcohol, drugs, violence, neglect, gambling and other harmful environments. Limited access to mental health information, safe spaces, counselling, and supportive services leaves many struggling with stress and emotional challenges without appropriate help, increasing their vulnerability and limiting their ability to build healthy and hopeful futures.
The project will create safe spaces where vulnerable adolescents can access mental health awareness, peer support, life-skills training, counselling referrals and positive recreational activities. It will equip adolescents with healthy coping skills, reduce reliance on harmful behaviors such as alcohol and drug use, and strengthen community support through caregiver and stakeholder engagement.
The project will contribute to improved mental wellbeing, resilience and healthier coping among vulnerable adolescents in Nyendo slums and Masaka City. In the long term, it can reduce harmful behaviors, strengthen access to support services, improve community care for adolescents and help young people build safer, healthier, and more hopeful futures.
