In December 2022, on the 12th and 14th, we held another edition of our annual graduation ceremony with our Portuguese workshop students. There were about 50 students of 13 nationalities and 9 classes from our two class periods (morning and evening). Along with our students were dozens more family members, friends, and Compassiva volunteers. It was the first time we held these graduations again after the COVID-19 pandemic.
During our program, veteran students helped us as interpreters for the newcomers, and we also had beautiful tributes from other students to the volunteer teachers. It was a moment of joy, recognition, and fellowship. In addition, more than 40 certificates were handed out to the students who completed the minimum hours of our workshops.
Throughout 2022, more than 1200 hours of classes (in person and online) were given to the dozens of students with us for another year. Many were unable to be with us at the graduations, yet they received their certificates and, fortunately, continue to progress in breaking the language barrier in search of integration, autonomy, and new achievements. Our hearts rejoice to see these results, and we work so that, in 2023, more people will have access to our workshops and the assurance of opportunities to rebuild their lives!
