Project Report | Mar 4, 2021
Our responses to refugees in Brazil in hard times

By Debora Blair | Project Coordinator

Compassiva continues to assist refugees (mainly Arabs and Venezuelans) in all projects. Our Portuguese Course finished 2020 with 156 students enrolled, and the total enrollment throughout the year was 169.

The format of the classes continues to be online since the beginning of the pandemic, through video-classes and activities that are sent to students by WhatsApp twice a week, for a total of 8 classes. In addition to these video classes, we have also conducted some live classes through the Zoom platform: just at the beginning of this year, we have already held 4 classes with different themes, with a total of 70 participants.

Students on our Portuguese course are also provided with other services, such as "Amparo" (Social Work) and Employability. At Social Work, during 2020 we assist students with many emergency demands (such as payment of household bills and basic food baskets), in addition to regular medical care, assistance to pregnant women, and much more. Activities continue in full swing in 2021, observing due restrictions due to Covid-19.

In Employability, we were able to carry out many remote activities in 2020, resulting in the hiring of 10 people served by the Program in different fields of work. In 2021 we continued our activities, and so far more than 20 job opportunities and vocational courses have been announced, and approximately 15 CVs have been sent to different companies.
