An amazing grassroots organization in Nepal called Samrakshak Samuha Nepal (SASANE) (www.sasane.org.np). SASANE is an organization dedicated to empowering women human trafficking survivors by training them to become certified paralegals. SASANE’s paralegals provide access to justice, completely free of charge, for other women who are survivors of trafficking and gender based violence in twenty-five police stations across Kathmandu and six police stations in Pokhara. SASANE’s paralegals also conduct education and awareness training in remote villages and 60 government schools in Nepal to combat human trafficking and gender-based violence at its sources. We have started the paralegal program from the year 2008 and till date, SASANE has in total 175 certified paralegals. They are organizing different awareness campaign through individual, different organizations as well as SASANE based project.
In this 2014 SASANE has placed extra 45 paralegals in different police stations for the practical course of the paralegal training. The paralegals have their exam on the 15th of February which is taken by the court. If they successfully complete the paralegal examination they will be working on the remote areas to provide awareness in anti-trafficking. Again after this we will be providing the paralegal training to another 45 trafficking survivors from June, 2014. Every year we select 45 girls and provide them with the training in order to make them economically sustainable even with or without the availability of the funding. With the activities of ours the survivor gets help as the trauma counseling and she gains the legal knowledge and she will be able to save money. And finally she will be easily getting justice by punishing the culprit.
This project basically has the objective of the survivor helping the survivor. With the little help from the society we can get a big help. With help we are also encouraged. With the encouragement we can help other sisters going through the same difficulty. We expect your support. With your support we can climb a stair and show the society that we can also do things. Catching our hand and taking us ahead is your responsibility.
