We met up with Ella who is one of our top embroiderers in the Fond des Blancs market place last week. Ella is embroidering a mermaid design for one of our key customers. When she is done with her piece, she will bring it to Haiti Projects and be paid for her piece work. The piece will be quality checked, washed and then ironed at the Artisanat Workshop. While she embroiders for Haiti Projects, she is also able to run her small business selling breakfast sandwiches in the market place, take care of her kids and raise her goats and chickens. Piece work allows artisans flexibility in setting their hours, their tasks and where they choose to work.
