Training new artisans on reusable pad project

By Cherie Abbanat | Executive Director

Haiti Projects has started training approximately 120 Haitian women in the Fond des Blancs area to manufacture reusable sanitary pads. The end goal is to have 50 women produce sanitary pads; 20 women educate about menstrual health and care of the pads; 50 women to sell the pads; and 100 women on financial literacy training. So far, the women have produced a total of 1,500 pads! They are currently working on an order of 6,000 pads. They have learned new skills such as sewing, cutting, packaging, washing, and cleaning. We interviewed, Marie Therese and Sonia, two women who have expressed the importance of the project from a financial standpoint. Other women have shared their interest in selling the pads in the market place. We expect to see benefits for not only the women producing the pads, but also the women who are selling and using the pads.
