Dear [donor first name], Happy Giving Tuesday! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. BARKA is an African word of thanksgiving, gratitude, and blessing, and we are grateful to YOU for everything you do to support our work. In 2021, our work has been about freedom, power — and some might say, revolution — for the women of Burkina Faso: all contained in a small silicone menstrual cup.
Last March, BARKA funded the training of 30 community health care workers on the use of the cups (“phase 1”). In October, these workers learned the skills to go out into their own communities to train others about menstrual health and hygiene, and distribute cup kits to a total of 1200 women and girls (“phase 2”).
We’re not exaggerating when we speak of revolution. In Burkina Faso, menstruation is a taboo subject. Creating space for education, discussion and practice around this simple and affordable solution helps women and girls build confidence and agency. The video link below offers a great snapshot of the program.
Over the next few years, we will expand our menstrual cup project across West Africa. To do that, we need your support! Your generous Giving Tuesday gift will provide operational support as we complete “Phase 2” and move forward with broader expansion.
Thank you for recognizing the power of simple solutions for the women and girls of Burkina Faso! BARKA!
