BARKA's MHM Project Leaders Receive Menstrual Cups
Dear Supporter of Girls and Women in Burkina Faso,
BARKA's efforts in recent months have been focused on helping our communities to combat COVID-19 and to provide life-saving assistance to internally displaced persons (Burkina's IDP crisis is now the worst in the world with over 1M people being forced to flee their homes due to terrorism and insecurity). See the links below for details.
At the same time, we have been quietly and dilgently at work developing a new project that we've mentioned here before- to introduce menstrual cups to girls and women for the first time in Burkina Faso's history. That dream is now closer to reality than ever before. We have been applying for grants to fund this project and will have good news to share with you soon.
Also, in June, three of BARKA's Menstrual Hygiene Project Leaders attended a workshop on menstrual cups and received one for the first time so that they can use it themselves and become familiar enough with it to eventually train others. BARKA has also partnered with an exciting, young social enterprise Menstru'elles, based in Ouagadougou. Together we created a film about the importance of cups for women in Burkina Faso. You'll find a link to it below.
In the meantime, you can participate in the fundraising efforts for this new initiative: GlobalGiving is offering a wonderful way to help support this project today through Friday in its LittlexLittle campaign. Right now, and until midnight on Friday, 9/18, GlobalGiving will make a 50% match for ALL donations up to $50. You give $50, and GlovalGiving will put in $25.
Every menstrual cup will make a difference, and every donation will help us to reach our ambitious goals.
Thank you for being part of the BARKA family that is having such an outsized impact in Burkina Faso. Together, we are changing the world.
