This summer, Summer Dreams combined skating, academic enrichment, leadership development, and creative exploration through hands-on workshops and experiences across New York City. Students developed business ideas and products for a Marketplace Showcase, explored coding, generative AI, and cybersecurity, and connected science to skating through lessons on physics and anatomy. Mural painting, graphic design, and enrichment clubs offered opportunities to express their creativity while strengthening communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Learning extended beyond the classroom through visits to museums, gardens, and urban farms, along with a BioBoat experience exploring the Hudson River’s ecosystem. On and off the ice, students built skating skills, strength, coordination, and body awareness through skating instruction and GOFIT conditioning. Junior counselor and development internship opportunities also gave older students and alumnae hands-on experience supporting FSH’s work. The Summer Dreams session culminated with an ice show attended by family and friends, where students showcased their on ice skills.
Now, Figure Skating in Harlem is back in action for the start of our 2026-2027 I Can Excel program!
This year we are looking forward to welcoming 170 girls into I Can Excel - getting them fitted for skates and apparel, doing student and family orientation sessions, and starting our education programming before the outdoor skating season begins. Their academic sessions begin next week, and we are excited to have their vibrant energy back in the building!
For Figure Skating in Harlem, this is a particularly exciting year: we are celebrating 30 years of empowering girls and young women through academic support and enrichment, figure skating, and giving them the tools they need for success well beyond our doors. Over the last 30 years, FSH has served over 1500 girls, sharing in their growth, helping them achieve their dreams, and watching them become leaders in their schools, careers and communities. We are so proud of our students and alumnae, and delighted to be reaching this milestone 30th anniversary alongside everyone who has supported us.
We are looking forward to a variety of exciting events this season, including the annual tree lightings at Bryant Park and Riverbank State Park, competitions for our synchronized skating teams, and expanding our Winter Dreams program to a new satellite location in Brooklyn, allowing us to reach more girls and inspire them to achieve their goals on and off the ice.
Thank you for your support of our students and for helping to empower them to dream big, embrace challenges and strive towards their dreams!
