Life at Kranti School

Dear Kranti Friends, Family & Supporters,

This winter, the Krantikaris embarked on a journey that was nothing short of life-changing — and like everything at Kranti, none of it would have been possible without you.

As you know, we’ve always believed education is about much more than books and classrooms. Over the past few months, the Krantikaris traveled across Goa, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, and Delhi — not as tourists, but as students of the world, learning about compassion, activism, and the power of community.

In Goa, they had their very first encounter with the ocean — a moment of wonder that will stay with them forever. They also participated in STEM workshops, where they soldered circuits, played a laser harp, and saw a 3D printer for the very first time. These experiences opened up new worlds, sparking dreams none of them had imagined possible.

In Gandhinagar, the Krantikaris stepped onto the stage for the first time, performing a powerful theatre piece about the lives and struggles of sex workers — a story rarely heard in Indian classrooms. Watching them use theatre to build empathy, challenge perceptions, and share their truths was one of the most beautiful, humbling moments of this journey.

In Hyderabad, the Krantikaris lived with a trans nun and spent time at a queer and trans community residence center. Together, they shared stories of pain, survival, and hope — and painted a mural as a symbol of solidarity and friendship. Despite the heavy conversations, there was so much laughter, art, and human connection. The girls discovered that, no matter how different our lives may seem on the surface, compassion is always the common thread.

And in Delhi, they met with Dalit rights activists, learning about caste discrimination and finally finding the words to describe pain many of them had carried all their lives. For the first time, they spoke about their mothers not just with love, but with pride and deep appreciation for the sacrifices made for them.

Alongside all these experiences, the Krantikaris also continued with Kranti school days filled with English classes, formal schooling, logic puzzles, worksheets and news. They have also been training in karate — a journey of strength, confidence, and healing. For many, martial arts have become more than just a sport; it’s a path to self-liberation. One Krantikari, who was married off at 13 and endured unspeakable trauma, shared that karate has given her a sense of power and freedom that nothing else ever had.

And finally, the Krantikaris participated in a Theatre of the Oppressed workshop, learning how to create conversations and challenge injustice through art, empathy, and dialogue — skills that will serve them for a lifetime as changemakers.

I share all this because none of these transformative experiences would have been possible without YOU. Whether you’re an old friend, a new supporter, or a stranger who simply believes in second chances, you are the reason these girls have the freedom to dream, learn, and heal.

Thank you for believing that girls from red-light areas deserve education, dignity, and opportunity. Thank you for seeing the humanity in them long before the world did. Thank you for investing your time, your heart, and your hard-earned resources into creating a world where compassion wins.

As we reflect on these past few months, I am reminded once again of how lucky we are — not just to witness the growth of these brave young women, but to be part of a community that believes in them so deeply. You have made that possible.

Wishing you and your loved ones endless joy, health, and love this year. May you find the courage to chase your dreams, the strength to heal, and the grace to always see the beauty in the world around you. And may you be repaid a millionfold for the love and kindness you’ve given to Kranti.

With all our love and gratitude,
Robin & the Kranti Team
