When children step onto a field for the first time, what’s the most important thing to take away?
Is it to win the game? Or do they first need a place where effort, trust, and teamwork can take root?
At Teach For Taiwan, we believe education begins long before results appear.
Starting from Zero—Together
When we held our first baseball practice, the children didn’t even know where the bases were. Balls flew past them faster than they could react, and mistakes were everywhere.
But we didn’t rush them or feel discouraged. Because from the very beginning, we held onto one belief:
Focus on the game, not the score. Focus on the team, not just oneself.
A Field Where Everyone Belongs
Our school values one’s character above all else. Every child comes from a different background, with different strengths. But on the field, they share one identity: teammates.
No one is extra. Everyone matters.
That sense of belonging changed how they saw themselves—and one another.
A Community That Showed Up
This journey was never taken alone.
Parents went out of their way after school to pick up bats so their children could practice at home.Teachers stayed late to secure equipment, refine training strategies, and run drills again and again.
One day, before one match, under the blazing sun, a parent brought drinks and said quietly,
“Teacher, I see my child changing. Even on weekends, they wake up early to practice. Thank you.”
When the Score Stopped Mattering
On game day, we faced a large school with a formal baseball team. The children knew they were at a disadvantage.
But on the field, they shouted encouragement, covered for one another, chased loose balls, and stood shoulder to shoulder. Watching them, my eyes filled with tears.
They weren’t playing to win.
They were playing for their teammates, for their effort, and for each other.
Winning Beyond the Trophy
We placed fourth in the county tournament. As the children lifted the trophy, their faces glowed with pride.
That trophy wasn’t just a result—it was proof of perseverance, passion, and character taking shape.
Even after the competition ended, they kept practicing. Not for the next win, but because they had fallen in love with the sport—and with supporting one another.
They learned that true victory isn’t the score.
It’s becoming a better version of yourself.
Thank You for Believing in This Kind of Education
Thank you to the teachers, parents, and children who stood side by side—and to you, our donors, for making this journey possible.
Your support helps plant seeds of character, teamwork, and trust that will grow far beyond the field.
We warmly invite you to stay connected with Teach For Taiwan by following our website, Instagram, and Facebook, where more stories of learning, growth, and shared effort continue to unfold.
Together, thank you for believing in an education that teaches children not just how to win—but how to care, trust, and move forward together.
