Youth Initiative 2023: Building a Network of Child Rights Champion with Children
In the winter and summer camps of 2023 YI, BCMD brought together diverse groups, consulting 60 children aged 8-19, including those in urban and rural schools, monastic institutions, conflict with the law, and shelter homes. This child-centric approach aims to create an alternative report, fostering a network of empowered defenders of child rights.
A theme song called Soel-dep (A plea) focusing on promoting equal opportunities for all children was co-created with children and aired on the national television channel (Bhutan Broadcasting Service).

Reflection on Media and Democracy Literacy Training – Youth Centre Coordinators & Assistants
In 2023, BCMD empowered Youth Center coordinators across Thimphu, Punakha, Paro, and Wangdue districts through Media and Democracy Literacy Training, focusing on cultivating healthy social media habits. Training 18 participants from six Youth Centers, the participants then conducted step-down training for 482 community members. The project aims to foster responsible digital citizenship, enhance online safety, and empower parents and children with tools for a secure digital space.

Content Creation and Marketing Workshop
Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy’s Media Lab organised a free day-long workshop for 10 participants on Content Creation and Marketing Workshop. This workshop is an initiative of Media Lab providing a platform to the entrepreneurs and students to dramatically level up their content creation and marketing efforts for their business and social media activities.
A participant of the workshop shared, “The workshop proved to be exceptionally enlightening, providing me with valuable insights into contemporary marketing strategies and digital content creation. Throughout the session, I gained a deeper understanding of various software tools that enhance the quality of digital content, offering me a chance to explore their applications. Furthermore, the workshop delved into the art of photography, equipping me with valuable skills to effectively market my ideas. Overall, the experience was not only informative but also empowering, broadening my knowledge and capabilities in the area of marketing and digital content creation”
BCMD Empowers Eastern Bhutan: Participatory Planning and Countering Disinformation Workshop.
During the period from June to August 2023, the Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy (BCMD) organised a sequence of capacity-building workshops in Samdrup Jongkhar (district), Eastern Bhutan.
The primary objective was to enhance the capabilities of local leaders in conducting participatory community analyses and fostering media literacy, equipping them to effectively counter disinformation.

Strengthening the capacity of the Local Government for Inclusive and Participatory Planning
A 5-day training session on GNH-Based Participatory Planning and Community Analysis was implemented in Trongsa from 16th – 20th February 2024 at Tendrel Resort, Trongsa (District). A total of 38 participants including local government elected leaders from 5 gewogs under Trongsa dzongkhag and officials from the dzongkhag administration attended the training. The training aimed to equip the participants with essential skills and practical tools to facilitate inclusive planning processes and community-driven development initiatives.
