Karigari: Crafting Empowerment and Sustainable Growth

Karigari literally means "Being Able." Literacy India’s Project Karigari has embarked on a journey to nurture a generation of trailblazers—women and youth poised to lead sustainable development. Our Grassroot Skills program unleashes creativity, encompassing fields from Stitching and Dressmaking to Beauty, Wellness, Painting, Embroidery, Basic IT Skills to Future Skills.

Recognizing the pivotal role of women and youth in sustainable development, Karigari focuses on two skill development segments: Grassroot and Digital Skill Development.

For over two decades, Literacy India has championed technology-aided education, aligning with the evolving landscape of the fourth industrial revolution. The shift in education policies, directed by the Government of India, underscores the changing nature of jobs and required skills.

Literacy India's Future Skill Project goes beyond the curriculum, exposing learners to technology's vast potential. Through engaging projects, students hone critical thinking and problem-solving skills, fostering enthusiasm and confidence for aspirational jobs.

The Karigari Program elevates the status of women and youth by providing tailored vocational training, aligning with beneficiaries' preferences and aptitude.

  • Computer Literacy: Creates pathways to IT-related careers, driving entrepreneurship in regions like Delhi, Haryana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan.
  • Stitching, Embroidery, and Beauty Culture: Empower beneficiaries to enter the garment industry or establish their own units.
  • Vocational Driving Training: Opens doors to careers in the automobile and transport industry or supports self-employment as professional drivers.
  • Rural-Community-based Skills: Skills like kitchen gardening and organic farming foster self-sustainability.
  • Future Skill Training: In Digital Marketing, Web Development, and Coding equips learners with in-demand skills.
Our Approach

  • Assessed skills and training needs for maximum impact.

Stories of Change :  Empowering the Young Generation through Skill Training

Shreya's (Name Changed) story is one of resilience and empowerment, illustrating how skill training can transform lives. Originally from Mohammadpur, Shreya's life took a significant turn when her family moved to a training facility specifically for training. Her father, who runs a small tea stall on the footpath, is the sole breadwinner for their family. With her mother being a housewife and her younger brother still in school, Shreya, as the elder sibling, felt the pressing need to contribute to the family income.

Naturally shy and reserved, Shreya struggled with self-confidence and found it difficult to communicate effectively. The idea of facing an interview was particularly daunting for her. Recognizing the need for personal and professional development, Shreya’s mother sought out opportunities to help her daughter.

Shreya enrolled in a Beauty Wellness Training program at the Centre, conveniently located near their new home in Dwarka. The program, designed to empower young women with vocational skills, provided Shreya with much more than technical knowledge. It included personality development and communication training, which were crucial for Shreya's transformation.

During the three-month course, Shreya received comprehensive training in beauty and wellness. The supportive environment at the Centre helped her gradually overcome her shyness. She learned to communicate more confidently, preparing her to face the professional world.

After completing her training, Shreya was ready to step into the workforce. The very same instructor who had guided her through her journey helped her secure a job at a nearby beauty parlor in Dwarka, earning 8,000 per month. This opportunity not only allowed Shreya to earn a living but also boosted her self-esteem significantly.

Today, Shreya works at the Beauty Wellness Center near her home, contributing to her family's income and standing as a role model for other young girls in her community. She is not just helping her family financially but also inspiring others in her community to pursue their dreams despite challenges.
