Literacy India`s Project Karigari has embarked on a journey to nurture a generation of trailblazers—women and youth poised to lead sustainable development. Our Grassroot Skills program unleashes creativity, encompassing fields from Stitching and Dressmaking to Beauty, Wellness, Painting, Embroidery, Basic IT Skills to Future Skills.

Recognizing the pivotal role of women and youth in sustainable development, Karigari focuses on two skill development segments: grassroots and Digital Skill Development.

Literacy India has championed technology-aided education for over two decades, aligning with the evolving landscape of the fourth industrial revolution. The shift in education policies, directed by the Government of India, underscores the changing nature of jobs and required skills.

Literacy India's Future Skill Project goes beyond the curriculum, exposing learners to technology's vast potential. Students hone critical thinking and problem-solving skills through engaging projects, fostering enthusiasm and confidence for aspirational jobs.

The Karigari Program elevates the status of women and youth by providing tailored vocational training, aligning with beneficiaries' preferences and aptitudes.

 - Computer literacy creates pathways to IT-related careers, driving entrepreneurship in Delhi, Haryana, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan.

- Skills in stitching, embroidery, and beauty culture empower beneficiaries to enter the garment industry or establish their own units.

 - Vocational driving training opens doors to automobile and transport industry careers or supports self-employment as professional drivers.

 - Rural-community-based skills like kitchen gardening and organic farming foster self-sustainability.

 - Future Skill Training in Digital Marketing, Web Development, and Coding equips learners with in-demand skills.

 Our approach:

  • Conducted a comprehensive area survey to identify beneficiaries.
  • Assessed skills and training needs for maximum impact
  • installed necessary equipment and machinery
  • Held orientation sessions for beneficiaries.
  • Provided ongoing, module-based training until program completion.
  • Offered business development workshops, motivational sessions, and internships for deepening knowledge, Grooming, communication sessions and work culture understanding.
  • Skill Training Provision and counselling to join the course/ career orientation sessions.
  • Assisted with job placement.

Literacy India is committed to empowering urban youth, with a particular focus on girls, through skill training, job readiness, and entrepreneurship, paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future.

 About Community & Our Intervention

In the heart of Mohammadpur, Delhi, where hope is as vital as the air we breathe, there lies a beacon of opportunity—the Mohammadpur Community Center. Here, amidst the bustling streets and daily struggles, individuals find not just solace, but a platform for transformation. It is a place where stories of resilience, determination, and empowerment unfold daily, each narrative echoing the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. Within these walls, Nisha and Harshita found not just refuge, but a pathway to reshape their destinies. Their journeys, marked by hardship, loss, and uncertainty, stand as testimony to the power of community support and skill empowerment. Through their perseverance, they emerged as symbols of hope, proving that with the right guidance and determination, one can overcome any obstacle. Nisha's story exemplifies the strength born from adversity, as she defied societal norms and financial constraints to carve a path towards independence. Meanwhile, Harshita's journey showcases the transformative impact of skill training, illuminating the way towards a brighter future despite the darkest of circumstances. These tales remind us that within every challenge lies an opportunity for growth, and within every setback, the seeds of triumph are sown.

 Stories of Change

Nisha’s- A tale of Resilience and Empowerment

 Nisha’s (Name Changed) Location: Delhi

Nisha’s(Name Changed)  journey at the Mohammadpur Community Center is a story of determination against odds. With the responsibility of supporting her family, including a brother and two sisters, Nisha faced early marriage immediately after completing her 12th grade. Post-marriage, financial pressures intensified as she grappled with her husband's limited income. Seeking to contribute to her family's financial stability, Nisha approached our community center. After counseling, she enrolled in the Front Office Skill Training program. This 3-month course provided her with comprehensive skills in front desk management, customer service, and administrative duties, equipping her for the professional world. Upon completion, with our support, Nisha secured employment as a Front Desk Executive at the Step edge outlet in Palam, Delhi. Her role involves managing the billing counter, where she excels, earning a monthly salary of 13,000 rupees. This job has not only improved her family's financial situation but also marked Nisha as an example of empowerment through skill development. Nisha reflects, "The training gave me more than skills; it gave me a sense of self-worth and independence." Her story is a powerful example of how skill training and personal determination can facilitate breaking barriers and transforming lives.
