Information technology providing a new answer to socio political awareness and poverty alleviation in Kibera
On Friday the 22nd of April the youth of Kibera will stand tall and prove to Kenyans that they have the solution to the perennial problems of poverty, poor governance and food security.
They will make this possible through the launch of a website. Hakizetu.info in Kibera.
The Hakizetu.info website is a platform designed to share information about the rights of the citizens of Kenya. And will showcase video, audio, photographic, music, and written word in the form of blogs posted by the youth of Kenya.
The project established by Voices of Africa for Sustainable Development is focused to empower people to change this great nation of Kenya. It is supported by Huawei Kenya, Acer Kenya, Intersat Africa, UNDP, Adobe Software among other organizations.
Voices Of Africa creates employment for youth through training them to use technology to create development. The plan for the Hakizetu.info program has been awaiting two key items: the right funding and time.
The target age range is split into two with content created by individuals aged 13-18 working through the Adobe Youth Voices project and by the older youths age 18-30 (as defined by Kenyan law).
The goals in creating this media are to increase awareness of the law and the social contract that the people voted into place.
The launch will take place at the Kibera football field from 12pm to 2pm. And will be hosted by the District Commissioner, VOA, Mizuka and local human rights activists.
