POPS Summer Clubs began meeting virtually in June, allowing members to attend special marketing and design workshops, mindfulness classes, and talk with guest speaker Miss USA 2020 Asya Branch. An advocate for criminal justice reform, Branch was crowned Miss USA 2020 and made history as the first Black Miss Mississippi and the first Miss Mississippi to win the crown.
POPS has finished compiling submissions for the eighth anthology from Out Of the Woods Press, Dear Friends. Current club members and graduates have submitted various works, including poetry, prose, photography, and other artwork, to be released in April 2022. This collection will focus on how club members and graduates are coping during the Covid 19 pandemic.
The connection between POPS and community partner Great White has grown stronger as they now provide lunch for the Venice High School club meetings. Introduced initially to POPS by a volunteer, Great White, a neighborhood-focused, coastal-Californian cafe in Venice Beach, began the partnership by launching POPS coffee. With each purchase of
POPS coffee, part of the proceeds went to support POPS clubs. The new weekly lunch donations for Venice High School club meetings will allow POPS to provide a safe and welcoming POPS experience.
