On the day of our Club Ambiental 2025 exhibition at Colegio Sachachorro, the school courtyard transformed into a mini “innovation fair.” Students stood proudly behind a long table covered with bright, handmade soaps and craft pieces, each one labeled and presented like a real product launch.
But the most powerful moment wasn’t the display—it was what students explained to visitors:
“This soap used to be cooking oil,” one student said, holding up a bar they had created with their own hands. “Now it’s something useful, and it won’t end up contaminating our environment.”
In many Amazon communities, used cooking oil is often thrown away because there’s no easy alternative. Through the club, students learned a simple circular-economy principle: waste can become a resource—and young people can lead that change.
What your support helped make possible
Because of you, students in Sachachorro:
learned how pollution affects local waterways and community health (in age-appropriate, practical lessons)
practiced teamwork, communication, and leadership by organizing a public school exhibition
turned environmental learning into action by creating soap from used cooking oil and presenting it to teachers and families
strengthened pride and confidence by showing “we can create solutions here, in our own school”
Why this matters
For donors, impact is often measured in numbers—but for us, the biggest change is mindset. Students didn’t just repeat a lesson; they became educators. They explained the process, answered questions, and showed adults that environmental responsibility can start with everyday choices.
Challenges we’re addressing
Working in the Amazon brings real barriers—weather, transport, limited materials, and tight school schedules. Even so, the club kept moving forward by using local, low-cost resources and building strong coordination with teachers and school leadership.
