One day when the class finished earlier than normal, Tran and her friends headed to the beach to hang out before going home. Later when she was on the way home by herself, a 17 year old boy from her village toke her to a bush and raped her. He threatened to burn down her house and kill her father if she told anyone about what happened.
At first, Tran didn’t realise she was pregnant. Her parents were rarely at home because the family struggled to make a living. They didn’t notice anything strange until she was 14 weeks pregnant. That’s when Tran confessed that she had been raped.
When Tran joined Hagar Vietnam, her son was already 5 months old. She had been traumatised by the incidents to the point that she thought she was becoming crazy. The first time that she shared about the abuse to Hagar counsellors, she suffered insomnia, faint and flash back. Her memories of the experience would come as vivid flashbacks.
Hagar will continue to walk with Tran as she walks her journey to recovery. Next year, Tran will return to school as she wishes. She believes education is the best way for her and her son to build their future. With Hagar’s support, Tran has found hope, belief, and dreams for their future which she thought were out of her reach.
