This project aims to support 350 girls from marginalized communities in rural Jharkhand and Bihar, India, by providing access to quality education and career opportunities. Through tuition support, career counseling, and gender awareness programs, the initiative fosters academic excellence, builds life skills, and combats societal barriers like early marriage, enabling these girls to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their full potential.
Jharkhand and Bihar rank among the 5 least literate states of India. Young women and girls here are faced with high drop-out rates, lack of access to quality education and prevalent social norms that prioritise boys' education and early marriage for girls. Additionally, families supported by wage labour expect girls to either take care of the household when the parents work or work along with the parents to maximise income.
The program has a two-pronged approach: addressing the immediate gaps in access to education, and challenging differential attitudes in society to empower girls to continue their education and build sustainable futures. Tuition support will be provided to 350 girls to improve academic performance, career counselling to explore opportunities, and life skills training to build confidence. Gender awareness programs will engage parents and communities to foster support for girls' education.
This initiative will transform the lives of 350 girls, enabling them to complete their education and secure better livelihoods. It will inspire a cultural shift, encouraging communities to prioritise girls' education. With improved literacy and life skills, these girls will contribute to family income, break cycles of poverty, and act as role models, fostering gender equality and community resilience for generations to come.
