Project Report | Oct 16, 2025
Project Progress Report - October 18, 2025

By Alfred Lugela | Project Leader

1. Introduction

Warm greetings from Tanzania.
On behalf of NESODO, I would like to extend our appreciation to all GlobalGiving donors and supporters who have believed in our mission to reduce plastic pollution while creating income opportunities for Tanzanian youth and women.

Since our last report in June 2025, we have continued to uphold the vision of the Tanzania Waste-to-Wealth Project (TWWP) despite facing significant funding challenges. Although no field activities have been implemented this quarter, our commitment and advocacy efforts to sustain and grow this initiative have remained strong.

2. Summary of Current Situation

Due to the lack of new donations over the past months, the project has not been able to proceed with the planned establishment of plastic waste collection centers or community outreach activities. However, the NESODO team and community groups remain engaged and motivated to continue once resources become available.

Key highlights of our continued efforts include:

  • Maintaining Group Engagement: All six community groups formed under the project remain active and ready to resume collection and awareness activities.
  • Continuous Communication: We have maintained contact with recycling partners and local stakeholders to ensure readiness once funding resumes.
  • Ongoing Advocacy: The project team has continued to promote plastic waste recycling awareness through informal discussions, social media updates, and community networks.

3. Challenges Faced

  • Lack of Operational Funds: No financial support has been received since mid-2025, which has delayed the establishment of waste collection centers and purchase of necessary equipment.
  • Rising Costs: Inflation and transportation costs have increased the estimated operational budget.
  • Limited Volunteer Retention: Some volunteers have temporarily shifted to other income-generating activities due to the inactivity of the project.

4. Next Steps and Outlook

Despite these challenges, we remain committed to the project’s objectives. Our upcoming plans once funds become available include:

  • Completing setup of the six plastic waste collection centers.
  • Conducting community sensitization sessions on waste management and recycling.
  • Initiating income-generating activities using recycled materials.
  • Expanding partnerships with recycling industries and environmental coalitions.

5. Call to Action

We sincerely appeal to our supporters to consider renewing their support to help us restart operations. Even small recurring donations can make a tremendous impact in reviving this project, supporting youth and women with green employment, and advancing environmental sustainability.

We also encourage friends and partners to share our story and campaign within their networks so we can reach more potential donors and collaborators.

6. Conclusion

Although this reporting period has been quiet in terms of field activities, the spirit and dedication of our team remain unwavering. We believe that with renewed donor engagement, we can continue turning plastic waste into wealth for communities across Tanzania.

We remain deeply grateful for your past and future support as we continue this journey toward a cleaner environment and sustainable livelihoods.
